Very Cool ESV Plugins.

Hal on Jan 31st 2007

Chris Roberts has written what looks like a couple of very cool plugins for [tippy title="WordPress"]The weblog software used for this, Sins of Our Fathers, blog.[/tippy].

The first you should be able to see – if I’m doing this right – by moving your mouse over the word WordPress above. The plugin that accomplishes that nifty tech trick is titled Tippy.

The next totally cool plugin Chris designed is the ESV Plugin.

For example, one of the verses key to the genesis of my novel and thus the title, is [bible]Numbers 14:18[/bible].

Using the ESV Plugin you can mouse over the verse reference and up pops the verse.

Cool, ain’t it!?

AMBER Alerts Pushed to Your Cell Phone.

Hal on Jan 26th 2007

In my novel, the AMBER Alert system comes into play immediately when one of the teenage girls in Pastor Jack Grayson’s youth group is abducted on her way home from school. Grayson first hears about the teen’s abduction on the radio.

In real life the AMBER Alert system has had some great successes.

For a long while now, I’ve been a subscriber to the wireless AMBER Alerts System.

What that means is that whenever an AMBER Alert is issued in my area of Florida, I immediately know about it via an instant text message sent to my cell phone. The likelihood of me actually sighting the perpetrator is low as I am not often tooling about on the roads, but there is a chance.

And that small chance is worth getting the text messages.

But beyond that I’ve another reason for signing up for the alerts: Prayer.

When they come, I pray.

If for no other reason I want to encourage you to sign up to pray too. Be aware that the alerts may come in the early morning hours. Which is one reason I tend to leave my phone on throughout the night. As the wireless alert website states:

Statistics show that the first three hours after an abduction are the most critical in recovery efforts. By signing up for Wireless AMBER Alerts you could play an integral role in the recovery of an abducted child.

Play that role. Pray and watch.

Here’s the link to website where you can sign up for alerts in your area or for the entire country: Wireless AMBER Alerts â„¢ System – AMBER Alert.

Here’s a link to a website that will give the history behind the creation AMBER Alerts System.

Greetings and Salutations!

Hal on Jan 24th 2007

This marks my first post to the Sins of Our Fathers weblog.

How cool is that? I’m excited. Blogging is something I love to do and have been doing since 2003 with my other blog, The Great Separation.

But this… this is something different.

Here I will be discussing my baby, my novel. And all that is going into getting it on a store shelf near you.

At least that’s the vision.

I’ve bled over my novel for some time. It is complete and at this moment I’m editing and getting input from my writers group, the Suncoast Christian Writers Group. Which, if your looking for a great group of Christians to step out upon the writer’s journey with, I highly recommend a writers group. If you’re in Florida’s Pinellas County area consider coming by and joining us.

Anyway, I’ve been hard at work putting together this blog and the main website. I’ve got to tell you, making the site was a blast! I really enjoyed it and comments so far have been encouraging. And yes, those are my eyes in the flash movie. It’s also my hand in the flash movie too.

Now that the site and blog are pretty much rolling, I’m looking at rewriting a chapter that takes place in the Holocaust Museum in St. Petersburg and working on completing my book proposal.

Oh, yeah. I’m blessed to have a friend with a set of kayaks and we went out into the Intercoastal waterways to a spot where I have a scene in my book. Needless to say it wasn’t exactly how I pictured it from what I could see from a distance. Close up I realized I needed to rewrite that scene too. So that’s on the docket. Thanks, Jim!

Hmm… I think I need to get to it and everything else that a starving artist must do.

Until next time.
